The Fourth Trimester

The "fourth trimester" is the season after your baby arrives - the weeks and months when your body is healing, your identity is shifting, and everything feels new and intense. While so much attention is given to pregnancy and birth, many moms are left feeling unseen and unsupported once they're home with their baby. That's where The Fourth Trimester Group comes in.

This therapy group is a safe, supportive space for new mamas to process the emotional, mental, and relational changes that come with early motherhood. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, exhausted, or simply not like yourself, you are not alone - and you don't have to figure this out by yourself.

Babies are more than welcome to attend their mama's group!!!

What This Group Offers:

  • a judgment free, come-as-you-are space to share honestly about motherhood.

  • support for postpartum mood changes, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm

  • help navigating identity shifts, relationship changes, loss of independence, and mom guilt

  • tools for managing stress, intrusive thoughts, and mental load

  • connection with other moms who are in the same season as you are

Why The Fourth Trimester Matters:

Becoming a mother is a major life transition. It can be beautiful and deeply challenging at the same time. Many women experience grief for their old life, guilt for not "enjoying every moment," and pressure to appear okay when they are not. This group normalizing those experiences and provides a place to be real, supported, and understood.

Who This Group is For:

  • New moms with babies in their first year of life

  • First time moms and experienced moms alike

  • Moms experiencing anxiety, mood changes, overwhelm, or adjustment difficulties

  • Moms who want connection, validation, and emotional support

My Approach:

The Fourth Trimester Group blends emotional support, psychoeducation, and practical coping strategies. We focus on:

  • Emotional regulation and nervous system support

  • Identity and self-compassion work

  • Boundary setting and communication

  • Reducing shame, guilt and increasing confidence

  • Building resilience in early motherhood

You don't have to be falling apart to deserve support. You simply have to be human - and a mama.

About the Facilitator:

Cami Lerminez, Psy.D, LCPC, LMHC is a licensed mental health counselor in both Illinois and Iowa. She is a mom to four boys (ages 12, 10, 4 and 4). And I believe:

  • loving your child and really disliking a season of it can co-exist

  • saying "this is really freaking hard" does not mean "I'm a bad mom"

  • mom guilt is real and it sucks

  • mom's inner world matters just as much as baby's

  • motherhood shouldn't be sugarcoated or done in isolation

  • motherhood is messy and not full of highlight reels

Worry Mode: OFF

Worry. Overthinking. What-ifs. You're not alone - and neither is your child.

Our tween (9-12-years-old) anxiety group is a supportive, play based therapy group designed to help kids ages 9-12 learn practical tools to manage anxiety, build confidence, and connect with peers who get it. Through games, creative expression, and guided activities, tweens learn how to calm their mind and feel more in control of their emotions.

Worry Mode: OFF is a group designed for tweens who feel stuck in constant overthinking, fear, and "what if" spirals. It's for the ones whose brains don't seem to shut off, who are always preparing for the worst, and who feel exhausted by their own thoughts.

Anxiety can show up as restlessness, irritability, perfectionism, people-pleasing, physical tension, trouble sleeping, school refusal, and a constant sense of unease. In this group, I help participants understand their anxious brains, learn how to calm their nervous system, and develop tools to turn down the volume on worry.

This is not about "just thinking positive" or forcing fear away. It's about building real skills, real safety and real confidence.

What This Group Focuses On:

  • Understanding how anxiety works in the brain and body

  • Learning tools to calm racing thoughts and physical symptoms

  • Managing overthinking, catastrophizing, and fear loops

  • Building emotional regulation and distress tolerance

  • Increasing confidence and internal safety

  • Replacing shame with self-compassion

Why This Group Matters:

Living in constant worry mode is exhausting. Many people don't realize how much anxiety is running their life until they finally experience quiet. Worry Mode: OFF helps participants step out of survival mode and into a place of calm, clarity and control.

We focus on:

  • nervous system regulation

  • emotional awareness and expression

  • thought-challenging and cognitive flexibility

  • coping skills that actually work in real life

Who This Group is For:

  • tweens who struggle with anxiety, overthinking, or constant worry

  • those who experience excessive reassurance seeking or self-doubt

  • people who avoid situations due to fear or worst-case thinking

  • anyone who wants practical tools and emotional support

My Approach:

Worry Mode: OFF blends psychoeducation, skill-building, and supportive group processing. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where members can be honest about their fears and learn how to respond to them with confidence instead of panic.

The goal isn't to eliminate worry completely - it's to help it stop running the show.

Friends in the Making

Friendships can feel confusing, awkward, and emotionally intense in the tween years. Kids at this age are learning who they are, where they fit, and how to connect - often while navigating big feelings, shifting peer groups, and growing self-consciousness. Friends in the Making is a therapy group designed to support tweens as they build confidence, connection, and healthy friendship skills.

This group provides a safe, supportive space for tweens to learn how to start conversations, join groups, handle conflicts, manage peer group rejection, and build real and meaningful friendships. We focus on helping kids feel more confident socially while also teaching emotional awareness, empathy, and communication skills.

What This Group Focuses On:

  • starting and maintaining friendships

  • reading social cues and body language

  • conversation skills and joining in with peers

  • handling bullying and conflict, teasing and exclusion

  • building confidence and self-esteem

  • emotional regulation and coping with big feelings

  • healthy boundary setting and kindness toward self and others

Why This Group Matters:

Many tweens struggle silently with loneliness, worry about fitting in, or fear being rejected by peers. These experiences can deeply impact self-esteem and emotional health. Friends in the Making helps kids feel less along, more understood, and more capable in social situations.

We focus on:

  • connection over perfection

  • confidence over comparison

  • skills over shame

Who This Group is For:

  • tweens who have trouble making or keeping friends

  • kids who feel shy, anxious, or unsure in social situations

  • tweens who are sensitive, emotionally intense, or easily overwhelmed

  • kids who want to build stronger peer relationships

  • tweens who need to learn the difference between red flags and green flags in friendships

My Approach:

Friends in the Making is led by Cami Lerminez, Psy.D, LCPC, LMHC and blends skill-building, guided activities (such as games, role playing, art, group activities) and supportive group discussion. I create a warm, inclusive environment where kids can practice social skills, express feelings, and build real connection - without pressure or judgment.

This is not about changing who your child is. It's about helping them feel confident being who they are.
